Should I feel upset after he told me this?
I tried to get my dad to schedule a conference with me, my parents, and my principal about college, financial aid, etc. I think it's especially important because I'm moving next year, before I start my senior year, and that might complicate things a *lot*.
In reply, my dad told me this:
"Listen, Sandra. I think it's great that you want to go to college. It's great if you end up going. But what we do isn't any of the principal's business...And, really, college for you isn't on the top of our priority list. Me and your mom's future, our retirement, means a lot more to us. Do you understand?"
I was also recently told that my parents haven't saved any money for college for me...and that they don't plan on giving me any. I don't mind paying my own way at all, but I was given no notice at all.
I'm very angry and sad and frustrated, and I don't know how to approach this. How can I convince my own parents that my future is important to me - and that it should be important to them?
